The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and reporting financial and accounting information. Working under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, assisting with the month-end close, reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts, maintaining the fixed asset software and inventory ledgers. The Staff Accountant will also assist in yearly audit and tax return preparations. Performs accounting work that involves the independent and regular use of discretion and judgment. Internal contacts are primarily with School Directors, Managers of Business Services, and field specialists. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Ensures month-end closing duties related to fixed assets and fixed asset software, SAGE, are performed and recorded on a monthly basis. Ensures accurate book and tax depreciation records, as well as, examines and reviews fixed asset records for proper disposition and classifications. Responsible for maintaining inventory sub-ledger and general ledger by working directly with campus business office. Reviews and adjust inventory as needed and ensures inventory levels are reasonable and accurate by completing monthly reconciliations. Ensures timely and accurate filings and submissions of property tax returns for all campus locations. Ensures credit balances are handled timely by auditing campus credit balance reports. Assist in analyzing financial statements as needed by management to ensure campus coding is accurate and fluctuations are explained. Maintains knowledge of corporate and accounting procedures and ensures designated campuses are in compliance. Advises management about noncompliance of policy and procedures by schools. Performs related duties as required.
Four-year college degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance. Experience with Great Plains/Microsoft Dynamicspreferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Extensive knowledge of accounting procedures and practices. Must have knowledge of company policy and procedures. Ability to communicate with internal and external contacts. Some travel may be required to assist campus Business Office as needed and perform institutional quality reviews.
