East Carolina University is seeking to hire its next chancellor. What began in 1907 as East Carolina Teachers Training School is now a large research institution with global influence. For more than 100 years, East Carolina has upheld the tenets of public service and regional transformation by ensuring students participate in programs and services to improve the quality of life, health, education, and employment for the people in rural and coastal communities in eastern North Carolina. ECU provides an affordable world-class education to a diverse student body of over 28,000 students.
East Carolina University is one of 17 institutions within the broader University of North Carolina System. This multi-campus university system is dedicated to serving the state of North Carolina and its people through world-class teaching, research and scholarship, and outreach and service. More than 239,000 students are enrolled in the UNC System's 16 universities across the state and the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics, the country's first public, residential high school for gifted students. The chancellor reports to the UNC System President and is responsible for carrying out the policies of the East Carolina University Board of Trustees and the UNC System Board of Governors.
Greenville is widely recognized as the thriving cultural, educational, economic, and medical hub of eastern North Carolina. While retaining its Southern charm and hospitality, Greenville has grown into the 10th-largest city in the state and is now a thriving, small metropolitan city of nearly 100,000 in the heart of Pitt County. Greenville is centrally located in eastern North Carolina, a region whose coastal environment provides a backdrop for tourism, water sports, and wildlife viewing. The Outer Banks to the east can be reached within a few hours' drive, and Raleigh to the west is a couple hours away.
