Machine Operator Machine Operator Full Time Metal Sales Manufacturing | Detroit Lakes, MN (56501) 7 DAYS AGO SUMMARY The primary responsibility of this position is to safely and efficiently, produce quality steel panels to fulfill order requirements. To accurately document product ran, scrap, scrap codes, etc. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1. Must be able to perform all incoming and outgoing mill related duties. This includes being  able to effectively retrieve coils with forklift, upend, unwrap, and bring to staging area, restage in used coil location, band finished skids and place in staging area. After loading coils, leading end of coil must be manually fed into entry guides of roll-former. Coil strip is then "jogged" by hand control through machine until lead end has exited the shear blade. 2. Must be quality oriented, capable of using measurement tools required and diligent about performing quality checks.  Short crops of the product are taken and laid out on table to measure coverage, check for squareness, check tightness of lap, check for overall appearance and look for any deformities. All checks except coverage and lap are to happen at the beginning of every shift. Coverage and lap checks need to happen at each coil setup3. Must be mechanically inclined to understand what adjustments are needed to be made to correct panel deviations. Any defects discovered in the quality checks may result in the need for tooling adjustment. This is accomplished by turning handles on pressure stands on top of roll-former base, approximately 30" above floor level. If needed, adjustments are made and additional crops taken. Upon satisfactory completion, crops are discarded in scrap pile. Any other defective material is cropped out and/or run into 8' panel(s). Panels are removed manually and placed into mill-ends pile. 8' sheets will weigh approximately 20 lbs. 4. Must be capable of doing minor trouble shooting on equipment, including daily lubrication maintenance. 5. Must be safety conscious, following all Metal Sales safety guidelines. Once panels are cut they are pushed past the operator on a automatic conveyor and magnetic stacker to an area directly above where the skid of material is accumulated. This presents the opportunity to be cut by the passing material.  Operator puts downward motion on sheets to release from magnets, and pulls ahead to a bumper so package has all pieces flush to one end when panels are the same length. If the operator fails to strip the sheet from the automatic conveyer in time, the next sheet can push the existing sheet down the line were it has the potential of hurting others banding on the line 8. Must be able to balance out or stagger panels of varying lengths to balance the weight of the skid and still maintain skid strength for material handling. Cardboard must be used as protection for any shorter pieces that could scratch the one below it.9. Must be able to adjust to changing requirements. Some customers require special packaging/stacking arrangements. Follow customer guidelines per documentation provided at the mill. Include skid tag(s) in skid tag bag along with each skid. After order is complete, the skid is pushed down the conveyor line by hand to the end of the line. Here the operator may need to assist in banding on roofing lines as is needed to keep the line clear.    After banding, the material is placed in a staging area by forklift.  10.Mill operator may also stack panels in crates, build crates, button up crates and cut lumber for crate pro 7 DAYS AGO
