Southeast Missouri State University is a four-year, comprehensive, moderately selective, public university. Southeast offers more than 150 academic programs. Founded in 1873, Southeast has evolved into a university of nine colleges and schools: Harrison College of Business, College of Education, School of Extended Learning, School of Graduate Studies, College of Health and Human Services, College of Liberal Arts, School of Polytechnic Studies, College of Science and Mathematics, and School of University Studies. In addition, a School of Visual and Performing Arts is under development. The University provides high-quality, accessible, and affordable programs responsive to the needs of the region, the nation, and the world. Southeast also is an engaged university supporting an array of applied research and public service programs that enrich and extend the learning environment. The University enrolls nearly 9,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Southeast is committed to controlled class sizes, with an average of 25-30 students per class and an overall student-faculty ratio of 18:1. Southeast has a technologically advanced campus and curriculum, with internships, clinical experiences, and practica built into 90 percent of all academic areas. Southeast has a primary service area of 25 counties in Southeast Missouri and the City of St. Louis. In addition to the Cape Girardeau campus, Southeast serves students through the Crisp Bootheel Education Center in Malden, the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center, the Kennett Area Higher Education Center, and the Perryville Higher Education Center. One additional center is planned. Southeast also maintains an outreach office in St. Louis. In addition, Southeast delivers courses and programs off-campus through interactive television and through the “Southeast Online” web. Through various partnership agreements, the University provides access to postsecondary education from associate level technical education to graduate degree programs. Southeast is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Its holdings also include the Louis Daniel Brodsky Faulkner Collection that is among the premiere collections of materials in the world by and about William Faulkner. Kent Library is open for service more than 100 hours each week and maintains24-hour web access to catalogs and electronic databases, many of which are full-text. Reference questions and interlibrary loan requests may be submitted electronically. Bibliographic instruction is offered regularly. Exp. Learning Experimental Learning. More than 90 percent of programs at Southeast provide students with internship and related opportunities which round out students’ education and make them more marketable upon graduation. Students have interned at sites ranging from the White House to the State legislature to NASA. Students are interns or have clinical experience with syndicated newspapers, international corporations, major medical centers, and school districts. Southeast also emphasizes international studies, offering more than 35 study-abroad programs. Southeast has more than 150 student organizations, including 11 national fraternities and nine national sororities and more than 12 musical groups, including the nationally recognized Golden Eagles Marching Band. Student Quality The overall average ACT of Southeast students is more than 23. The Governor’s Scholars and National Merit Scholars have an average ACT of 32. The average high school GPA is 3.3
